Local events

There are a number of events held regularly in and around Abergavenny throughout the year, as well as productions by local theatre groups, musical concerts and other entertainments.

    Steam engines from miles around congregate in Bailey Park to make a great day out.

  • Abergavenny Carnival
    July

    Entertainment, parade, motorcycle displays, gymnastics and more.

  • The Shire Horse Show
    (24 July 2010, Bailey Park)

    These magnificent animals used to be the closest thing to a tractor that a farm possessed. A fun-filled day out with plenty of other events happening throughout the day. For more info, please email janicereamestho@aol.com

  • The Fun-fair
    (end of May/early September)

    Twice a year the fair comes to Abergavenny and takes over the Fairfield car-park. A tradition dating back centuries.

  • The Festival of Abergavenny
    (Summer)

    During July and August, a programme of cultured events takes place, from Shakespeare in the grounds of the castle to open-air musical concerts in Linda Vista gardens.

    A programme of culinary events spread out across a number of venues in the town. Described as the 'Glastonbury of Food Festivals' (Carole Cadwalladr, Observer Food Monthly 2005), this festival just gets better and better. Expect to try out all kinds of food and drink samples from local and unique suppliers, and definitely expect to be taking plenty home with you!
